Lone Tree has guidelines for the care and use of property, and approval requirements for any changes to commercial property exterior colors and landscape alterations. Special outdoor advertising is regulated by the issuance of Banner Permits and Temporary Use Permits.
Approval and permitting information can be found below.


If your business wants to hold an event or place a display or tent outside your building, you may only do so with an approved Temporary Use Permit.

Temporary Use Requirements:

  • If alcohol is to be served, applicant shall adhere to the City’s liquor licensing regulations.
  • Include a written statement describing the temporary use, as well as any promotional items used, and indicate if it is a Grand Opening.
  • Attach a site plan showing lot lines, driveways/access aisles, tent size and location (if there is one), on-site lighting, seasonal outdoor storage/sales, setback from lot lines and proposed traffic and pedestrian circulation.
  • Applicant is responsible for notifying property management.
  • When proposing items such as a large tent or a stage, the applicant is responsible for complying with the regulations and any permitting requirements of all other applicable agencies such as South Metro Fire Rescue and Douglas County Health Department. Copies of the certificates/permits must be attached to this application.
  • A copy of a current City of Lone Tree Business/Sales Tax License, if applicable.
  • Site must be in full zoning compliance for approval of this permit.

Fees:

Temporary Use/Food Truck: $25/day

Grand Opening Event: no fee.

Food Trucks

Parking

  • Are pot holes present? If so, please repair them quickly. Your customers will be appreciative.
  • Are parking space lines or handicap markings faded? Please repaint as needed.

Landscaping

  • Landscaping shall be maintained in a neat, clean and healthy
  •  condition. This shall include proper pruning, mowing of lawns, weeding, fertilizing, mulching, trimming, removal of litter and regular irrigation of all plantings, as applicable.
  • Trees and shrubs should be replaced when 40% of the plant is dead, or if the main leader of a tree has died.
  • Replacement evergreen trees must be at least six feet in height when planted. Replacement leaf bearing trees must be at least two-inch caliper in size when planted.
  • No artificial plants are allowed.

Dumpster service areas

  • Has your dumpster company provided you with a clean, graffiti free container with operable lids? If not, please contact your provider for repair or replacement.
  • Is your dumpster area free of litter and debris? Please have your team keep the area clean.
  • If you have a dumpster enclosure, please keep the doors closed, painted and operable.

Sidewalks

  • Remove obstructions such as low hanging tree limbs and overgrown shrubs.
  • Snow and ice must be removed within 24 hours after snow stops falling.

Signs

  • Have sign posts been damaged and need to be straightened, repainted or replaced?
  • Have signs cracked or faded and need to be replaced?

  • Adding new signs, or increasing the size of existing signs requires a permit.

  • Please note that exterior building and site changes may require approval from the Planning Division. Call 720-509-1180 to get started.
