Current Restrictions

By Administrative Order 17-01, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in the City of Lone Tree have been rescinded effective Tuesday, February 21, 2017. 

History

In 2011, with Ordinance 11-04,Council adopted procedures for restricting open fires and open burning in the City of Lone Tree. Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 restrictions take effect upon the issuance of an administrative order executed by the City Manager and shall remain in effect until rescinded by similar order.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Mean the following activities are prohibited:
  • Open burning of any kind without a permit from the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.

  • Use and sale of fireworks.

  • Open discarding of cigarettes and smoking materials.

  • Welding or the operation of torches with open flame in outdoor areas, including public parks, greenbelts, open spaces and trail systems without a permit.

  • Operating or using any internal combustion engine (e.g., chainsaw) without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order.

  • Operating any pest control equipment which relies upon the ignition of flammable gases or liquids.

Allowable activities include:
  • Fires within liquid-fueled or gas-fueled appliances including fire pits, grills, and camp stoves; fireplaces within buildings; charcoal grill fires within developed residential or commercial areas; fires within wood burning stoves.

  • Permitted fires by persons with a permit specifically authorizing the prohibited act or omission, including permitted professional fireworks displays.

  • Fire department training fires.

  • Tiki torches; small recreational fires at developed picnic or campground sites contained in permanent fire pits or fire grates having a total fuel area of 3 feet (914 mm) or less in diameter and 2 feet (610 mm) or less in height and which are supervised by a responsible person at least 21 years of age.

  • Burning of explosive wastes by the manufacturer of explosives in areas zoned for industrial use, when the burning is supervised by a fire protection district.

  • Open fires or open burning by any federal, state or local officer or member of an organized fire protection district or department in the performance of official fire suppression function.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

Mean the following activities are prohibited:
  • All Stage 1 fire prohibitions.

  • Open burning of any kind.

  • Use and sale of fireworks.

  • Use of or fires in chimneas, other portable fireplaces or patio fire pits (which are not liquid or gas fueled).

  • Campfires at developed campgrounds or picnic areas.

Allowable activities include:
  • Fires within liquid-fueled or gas-fueled appliances including fire pits, grills, and camp stoves.

  • Charcoal grill fires within developed residential or commercial areas.

  • Use of all fireplaces and wood burning stoves within buildings

  • Fire department training fires.

  • Burning of explosive wastes by the manufacturer of explosives in areas zoned for industrial use, when the burning is supervised by a fire protection district.

  • Open fires or open burning by any federal, state or local officer or member of an organized fire protection district or department in the performance of official fire suppression function.
