independence day

The City of Lone Tree has made the difficult decision of canceling its annual Independence Day Celebration and fireworks show at Sweetwater Park due to limitations on group gatherings, budget constraints and safety concerns.

“It’s truly heartbreaking that we are not able to host our community’s favorite tradition – our Independence Day Celebration at Sweetwater Park,” said Lone Tree Mayor Jackie Millet. “However, the safety and health of our residents and our staff is of utmost importance.”

In an effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the State’s latest Public Health Order still limits the number of individuals that can safely gather for events, which would prevent the City from hosting an event that normally draws about 10,000 guests.

Furthermore, the City’s annual budget for events has been reduced in response to a significant drop in revenue due to COVID-related business closures.

“We know how important this event is for our community, and we are committed to finding fun but safe ways to celebrate with family and friends,” said Millet. “It’s certainly going to look different, but that does not mean we still can’t honor this special day and make it memorable.”

The City is currently assessing alternative and cost-effective ways for the community to still be able to celebrate Independence Day.

As soon as plans are solidified, the City will be working on communicating this to its residents, businesses and entire community.
