The City of Lone Tree Youth Commission recognizes one youth resident with the Outstanding Youth of Lone Tree award every year. The recognition and $1,000 prize, provided in partnership with Canvas Credit Union, are awarded to an applicant who demonstrates a significant commitment to community involvement and personal achievement.

The Lone Tree Youth Commission promotes the award during the application process, reviews and interviews applicants, and selects the winner each year. Council member Cathie Frazzini was another panelist for interviews, providing valuable insight to commissioners though the process.

This year, Eli Testa was the selected winner of the award. A senior at Highlands Ranch High School, Eli demonstrated participation and contribution to a significant community – youth and adults in theatre and performing arts. He created “Future is Bright,” a student-run theater company whose show proceeds are donated to the Denver Actors Fund. Eli has served as primary director and producer for the three years of the show’s existence and has raised nearly $40,000 for Denver area actors’ healthcare costs.

The Youth Commission and City Council were not only impressed with his fundraising, but his desire to create community. Students from different schools participate in Future is Bright, which has formed bonds of friendship that surpassed the barriers to connection that COVID-19 brought to many people. Eli has also participated in Wind Ensemble, Talons Choir, National Honor Society, and various theater companies and productions while maintaining academic success.

We are proud to continue to showcase the amazing talent and commitment to community that Lone Tree youth possess. Congratulations, Eli!
