Mayor and City Council

The City of Lone Tree is a Home-Rule City with a Council-Manager form of government. The elected Mayor and four City Councilmembers make policy decisions, while the City Manager, appointed by the City Council, implements these policies through the management of the daily operations of the City government and staff. Councilmembers represent one of two districts within Lone Tree; the Mayor serves as an At-Large member. The Mayor and City Councilmembers can serve up to two terms, and each term lasts four years.

Meet Your City Council

City Council Meetings

Lone Tree City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Meeting times may be subject to change. Please check the agenda for each meeting to confirm actual dates and times.
 
Meetings are held at the Lone Tree Civic Center, 8527 Lone Tree Parkway, and are open to the public. The meetings are generally structured as follows: 

Study Sessions at
4:30 pm

The City Council will hold a Study Session where it receives presentations from staff or invited guests on various topics. The public is welcome to attend Study Sessions, however, there is no public comment. 

Executive Sessions at 6:00 pm

The City Council may hold an Executive Session between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. These are meetings where only the City Council, the City Attorney, and select City staff may attend. The reason for an Executive Session will be announced publicly at 6:00 pm in the City Council Chambers if an Executive Session is held. 

Regular Meetings at 7:00 pm

The City Council’s Regular Meeting is where the City Council votes on formal actions and receives public comment. Comments from the public are welcome at three different occasions during the regular meeting: during the scheduled public comment portion of the agenda, during a scheduled public hearing, or upon invitation of the Mayor at the discretion of City Council.

City Council Duties

Serving on City Council is a big commitment of dedication, time and energy. The Mayor and City Councilmembers help shape policies that touch nearly every part of community life—public safety, transportation, development, parks and trails, City services, and more. That means spending time listening to residents and businesses, learning about issues, and working closely with City staff, regional partners, and other elected officials. 
 
Much of the work happens long before a Council meeting ever takes place. Councilmembers read reports, research topics, and meet with people in the community so that when decisions are made, they’re made with a clear understanding of what matters most to Lone Tree and in alignment with the values of the community.  
 
In addition to setting policy, the Mayor and City Council appoint residents to serve on City boards, commissions, and committees, represent Lone Tree at events, and often take part in regional and state-level groups to make sure our City has a strong voice in projects and issues that affect Lone Tree.
