Youth Commission
The Lone Tree Youth Commission gives local teens a voice in shaping their community. Established in 2009, the Commission is made up of five to nine Lone Tree residents currently in 8th through 12th grade, appointed by City Council for two-year staggered terms.
The Commission serves in an advisory role to City Council, providing input on matters that affect the youth and teen population in Lone Tree. Commissioners meet twice a month, work together on an annual project, and gain hands-on experience learning how local government operates. It’s a unique opportunity for young people to develop leadership skills, contribute to their community, and make a real impact in Lone Tree.
The Youth Commission meets the second and fourth Thursday of every month at the Lone Tree Municipal building.

Outstanding Youth of Lone Tree Award
The Lone Tree Youth Commission, in partnership with the City of Lone Tree, offers an annual Outstanding Youth of Lone Tree Award. This award is meant to recognize youth in the community who demonstrate a commitment to community involvement as well as personal achievement. The award provides an opportunity to showcase the talents and contributions of young people at an annual award ceremony during a Lone Tree City Council Meeting. The award winner is recognized by the Mayor & City Council and receive a cash prize of $1,000.
This award is open to any youth enrolled in eighth through twelfth grade whose legal residence is within the City of Lone Tree at the time of application. The award recipient will be determined based on an applicant’s demonstated leadership through community service or other outstanding accomplishments in academics, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, environment, sports and recreation, social action, or personal triumph.
The 2026 Award’s application submission period is from February 13 to March 13, 2026. A full application includes a completed form filled out by the applicant, a submission of formal transcript, and at least one reference from an adult speaking to how an applicant fulfills the award criteria. Apply to be on a Commission, Board or Committee
Applications are collected annually and are kept on file for one year to fill any vacancies that may arise during that period. When a vacancy occurs, City Council will review the applications and invite selected individuals for interviews. Applications submitted when there are no openings will be considered when an opening occurs.
