Home break-ins can happen anytime, but with a few precautions, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Follow these tips to keep your home safe and secure:
- Lock It Up: Always lock doors and windows—even when you are home. Don’t forget to close garage doors and side gates.
- Light It Up: Keep your property well-lit with motion-sensor lights around entry points. Bright homes are less appealing to burglars.
- Be Neighborly: Watch out for each other. A tight-knit community is a safer community. Report suspicious activity to local authorities.
- Secure Valuables: Avoid leaving expensive items visible from windows and store them in a safe or secure location.
- Use Technology: Install security cameras or smart doorbells to monitor and deter intruders. Install and use home security systems for your home.
- Hire reputable contractors: You should always exercise caution and do thorough due diligence before letting anyone work inside or outside your home.
