In the past several weeks, the Lone Tree Police Department has seen a noticeable increase in residential burglaries. To date, there has not been anyone home during the time of the burglaries. Cash, high dollar purses, jewelry and other items seem to be the target. Suspects are gaining access to houses by shattering large windows or sliding glass doors on the rear of the house. The houses also generally back up to commercial property, open space, or a golf course.
These types of burglaries seem to be part of a growing pattern in the Denver Metro area and law enforcement agencies are working together to investigate these crimes. One concerning trend we are seeing is many of the victims are of Asian descent. We ask all residents to be vigilant and take appropriate steps to secure your homes, vehicles, and property. We also encourage you to share this information with your friends, family, and neighbors.
Lone Tree has had two burglaries matching this pattern in the Heritage Hills neighborhood, on November 12th and December 3rd. In the most recent on December 3rd, between 1:30 PM and 2:20 PM, a vehicle of interest has been identified. It appears to be a gray 2002-2009 GMC Envoy with no license plates. The vehicle has significant damage to the driver’s side front quarter panel, non-matching wheels, and a sunroof. If anyone sees this vehicle, we ask that you call 9-1-1 immediately. We are also asking for area residents with camera systems to check their camera footage for this vehicle. Pictures of the actual vehicle are below.
The Lone Tree Police Department encourages all residents to please call 9-1-1 if you need police assistance immediately or if you see something that looks suspicious or does not feel right in your neighborhood.
The Lone Tree Police Department is actively working these cases. Detective Lori Mohr is the lead investigator. Our Investigations team is also collaborating with several other area law enforcement agencies and meetings are happening to discuss cases, leads, and any progress. Our patrol team already conducts increased patrols in our residential neighborhoods and will continue to do so. We will provide any significant updates to keep out residents informed.
Here are some safety tips:
- Have quality security systems working and in place to protect your residence and loved ones.
- Use known and reputable contractors to perform any work on your house or yard.
- Have someone check on your home if you are going to be gone for extended periods of time.
- Use the Lone Tree Police Department’s “House Watch” program for shorter vacations or trips.
- Know your neighbors and look out for each other.
- Report any suspicious people or vehicles so police officers can respond to the area and address concerns.
- Suspects may be wearing ski masks, if you see someone in your neighborhood wearing a mask, please call 9-1-1.
