Building Permits

Permit applications are only accepted electronically through our portal. Log in to the Accela portal here. Please note that Plan Review fees are due at time of application submittal. For questions about building permits, contact us at 720-390-5211.

Accela is the online permitting and application portal that the Building Division utilizes. It is where you can apply for a building permit, check on the status of a permit, schedule inspections, and more.

IMPORTANT: Before applying for a building permit, business owners are strongly encouraged to request a zoning verification letter from the City to ensure that their proposed business location is zoned to permit their business use (e.g. a restaurant). Zoning compliance is a requirement for the City’s issuance of zoning, building, and sign permits. Businesses located on sites that are not zoned for their business use may experience a delay or denial of such permits.

Land Use & Development Applications

Land Use & Development applications include applications for Site Improvement Plans, subdivisions, rezonings, among other applications. Sign Permits

The City recognizes that signs and other graphic elements play an important role in communicating messages and shaping the character of the community. Lone Tree has standards based upon the sign category, regardless of sign content, that protect public safety, reduce visual clutter, and ensure that high standards for community appearance and architecture are maintained. Temporary Use Permits

If your business wants to hold an event or place a display or tent outside your building, you may only do so with an approved Temporary Use Permit. Selling food out of any portable vehicle including trucks, carts, trailers, roadside kiosks, and stands is allowed with an approved Temporary Use Permit (subject to conditions and requirements).

Special Event Permits

A special event permit application is required for events or activities that:

Require the full or partial closure of public streets/sidewalks.
Are an organized activity conducted by a person or organization that impacts city property, facilities, or routine city services.
Have 50 or more people which obstructs, delays, or interferes with the normal flow of pedestrian or vehicular traffic/controls.

Liquor Special Event Permit

Wireless Communication Facility Permits

Wireless Communication Facility permits are handled between the Public Works, Building and Planning departments, depending on the type of facility and location. For further information about what permits are required, learn more here.

Public Works Permits

Right of Way (ROW), Access, and GESC permits are handled by the Public Works Department. Permits will generally be issued within five working days from the date of application: however, larger projects or incomplete submittals will require additional time. Projects requiring significant lane closures should be submitted at least 10 days in advance of the anticipated start of work to allow for more review time.

Solicitation Permit

Registration with the City is required for solicitors, hawkers, and peddlers. A canvasser is not required to register with the City but may do so in order to assure City residents of the canvasser’s good faith. Each person operating under a solicitation permit is required to carry it on his/her person at all times and produce the permit if requested by an officer, agent, or resident of the City.
