School Resource Officers

To create and maintain a safe, secure and orderly learning environment for students, teachers, and staff, the Lone Tree Police Department (LTPD) provides school resource officers (SROs) across schools serving the Lone Tree community. This initiative is part of an intergovernmental agreement with Douglas County School District (DCSD), which specifies the cost- sharing agreement for the SRO program between the City and the school district.

Three officers of the LTPD’s Community Partnership Unit (CPU) are assigned full time duties to cover multiple schools including Legacy High School, Lone Tree and Eagle Ridge Elementaries, and three schools on the Teddy Lane Campus, including Eagle Academy, Early Childhood Center North, the Bridge Center, Ambleside School of Colorado, and Ascent Classical Academy.

Since 2022, in partnership with the school district, the police department has committed SROs to local schools as part of its goals for early intervention and crime prevention shaping safety on school campuses.

School Resource Officers have several key responsibilities, including:

Responding to incidents and addressing safety concerns

Conducting educational programs to promote awareness

Mediating and resolving conflicts among students

Preparing for and managing emergencies

Working closely with school administrators, teachers and parents to address issues and enhance the school environment

Serving as positive role models for students

All LTPD SROs are trained and certified by the National Association of School Resource Officers and the Colorado Association of School Resource Officers.
