Meet Mikey, Victim Services Therapy Dog
Mikey joined the Lone Tree Police Department in November 2021 as the first Paw Pals Assistance Dogs (PPAD) to be placed with a law enforcement agency. PPAD is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities, by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to recipients whose physical well-being would be enhanced by interaction with a service animal. His calming presence offers comfort and support to victims of crime, as well as to department and City staff during times of stress or crisis.
Named in honor of a former female officer from the Chicago Police Department, Mikey proudly serves as an ambassador of the Paw Pals Assistance Dog program.
Mikey is a City-funded resource and a true community partner, made possible through the generous support of local vendors. Thanks to Kiewit who provided the funding to bring Mikey to the department, Barky Mountain Groomers keeps his coat clean and camera-ready, and Lone Tree Veterinary Clinic ensures he stays healthy and happy.
Mikey’s favorite time of day is attending patrol briefings, where he proudly carries his favorite toy, “Baby,” and soaks up all the love from his many officer friends.
When he is off duty, Mikey is a true adventurer at heart. He loves exploring the great outdoors, going on hikes, and taking long, leisurely walks. Sticks, snacks, and a little playtime are some of his favorite things, and he never says no to his toys! Mikey isn’t just a dog; he’s a golden friend who brings joy and warmth to everyone he meets.
Keep an eye out for Mikey at Police events – he often shows up as a special guest!
