Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS)

The LTPD VIPS program was established in 2007 to encourage the effective use of volunteers who wish to donate their time and talents to further the goals of the Police Department.

The mission of the VIPS is to serve the Police Department and enhance the effectiveness of community policing through the provision of administrative and support services.

VIPS are requested to serve at least four volunteer hours per week to the Police Department throughout the year.

Volunteers serve in a variety of volunteer roles at the Police Department, including:  

  • Customer service and records specialists 
  • Community Partnership Unit assistants 
  • Patrol support 
  • Special projects assistant 
  • Victim services advocate (include link to this under Services)
