Young Citizens Police Academy
The Lone Tree Police Department hosts its annual Young Citizens Police Academy – an exciting opportunity for local high school students to step into the world of law enforcement. From hands-on activities to behind-the-scenes tours, students gain a deeper understanding of the dedication, teamwork, and commitment it takes by police officers to keep the community safe!
All participants must be students entering 9th through 12th grades, complete an online application and release of liability waiver, and pass a criminal background check.

Dates
- Friday, April 17 5:00 – 8:30 pm
- Saturday, April 18 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Friday, April 24 5:00 – 8:30 pm
- Saturday, April 25 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Graduation 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Location
All classes will be held at the Lone Tree Police Department, 9220 Kimmer Drive. Transportation will be provided to the range and drive track.
Snacks and Drinks
Snacks and drinks will be provided at each session. Lunch will be provided on both Saturdays.
School Volunteer Hours
Officer Larson will sign off on school volunteer hours at the completion of the academy.
Some of the activities at the academy for attendees include:
- Serve as detectives on a mock crime scene and solve the case
- Participate in a simulated high-risk traffic stop
- Learn how to clear a building during an emergency event
- Complete roadside manuevers while wearing intoxicated goggles
- Learn about tasers, body cameras, and police drones
- Participate in an arrest control class and discuss use of force
- Learn about driving under the influence, mental health, homeless outreach and other law enforcement topics.
