The City of Lone Tree has enacted Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, effective Thursday, July 2, 2026, until further notice. This is an escalation from the Stage 1 fire restrictions that went into effect on June 29, 2026.
City July 4 Fireworks Show Canceled
After careful consideration of current conditions and public safety, and in consideration of entering Stage 2 fire restrictions, the fireworks show planned as part of the City of Lone Tree’s Independence Day Party in the Park event on July 4 has been canceled. The City will explore opportunities to reschedule the professional fireworks display later this year when conditions safely allow.
Fire restriction decisions are based on several factors, including weather conditions, current fire danger, and available firefighting resources. This year’s unusually hot, dry, and windy conditions have created heightened fire risk across Colorado and the western United States, prompting multiple jurisdictions, including others in Douglas County, to restrict or cancel fireworks displays and other activities that could increase wildfire danger.
The decision was made to protect the safety of the entire Lone Tree community, as well as neighboring communities that could be affected if a fire were to start and spread. While the City recognizes that fireworks are a long-standing Independence Day tradition, current conditions require additional caution and shared responsibility.
Personal Fireworks Prohibited
Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit the sale and use of any personal fireworks, including sparklers.
Violations may result in a fine of up to $2,650 and/or up to one year in jail. The Lone Tree Police Department will be strictly enforcing all prohibited activities, including the use of personal fireworks. Officers will be issuing tickets, not warnings.

Prohibited Under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
The following activities are not allowed:
- Personal fireworks of any kind
- Sale of fireworks
- Open burning of any kind
- Fires in chimineas, portable outdoor fireplaces, or recreational fires that are not liquid- or gas-fueled
- Campfires at developed campgrounds or picnic areas
Allowed Under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
The following activities are allowed:
- Gas- or liquid-fueled grills, camp stoves, and appliances
- Charcoal grills in developed residential or commercial areas
- Gas- or liquid-fueled portable outdoor fireplaces and recreational fires contained in permanent fire pits
- Fireplaces and wood-burning stoves inside buildings
