Chicago Tap Theatre is a vibrant dance company with a unique mission to preserve the quintessentially America dance form of tap and to take tap to the next level of creativity and innovation. The company stands apart from other dance companies by bridging the gap between tap and other forms of concert dance such as jazz, ballet and modern by adopting a conceptual and narrative approach to its work. Chicago Tap Theatre performs exclusively with live music provided by some of Chicago’s finest musicians playing everything from Duke Ellington to David Bowie.
Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents: Songs We Love
Songs We Love was first presented as the 2016 Season Opener at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Songs We Love is a journey through the first 50 years of jazz song. Under the musical direction of Riley Mulherkar, three guest vocalists will join an all-star band made up of New York’s rising stars. Combining their distinct talents, the group will sing their way through four decades of music, beginning with the early blues and jazz of the 1920s and ending in the early 1950s. Iconic singers to be explored include Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Judy Garland.
Peking Acrobats featuring The Shanghai Circus
For over 30 years, Peking Acrobats have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics. They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs; they are experts at trick-cycling, precision tumbling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. They defy gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. They push the envelope of human possibility with astonishing juggling dexterity and incredible balancing feats, showcasing tremendous skill and ability. They are masters of agility and grace. Often accompanied by live musicians skillfully playing traditional Chinese instruments and high-tech special effects that coalesce with the music and awe-inspiring feats, the Peking Acrobats features all the excitement and festive pageantry of a Chinese Carnival!
International Guitar Night
For their 23rd year of touring, International Guitar Night is bringing back one of the guitarists from the COVID-postponed 2021 tour, Canadian jazz guitarist and vocalist, and recipient of the 2021 Juno (Canadian Grammy) for Jazz Album Of The Year Jocelyn Gould. She will be joined by Flamenco master Jesus Guerrero from Spain; contemporary classical guitarist Stephanie Jones, and Finnish guitarist Olli Soikkelli.
