LIVESTREAM: National Geographic Live: Mysterious Seas

Get a glimpse into the ocean’s greatest depths—and the fascinating creatures that live there—with two leading marine biologists. David Gruber searches the oceans for bioluminescent and biofluorescent marine species and designs delicate and noninvasive tools for studying and interacting with deep-sea life. Diva Amon participates in expeditions around the world to study the unusual animals living in a variety of deep-sea habitats—and how humans impact them. Through stories and conversation, they’ll shine a light on this dark, cold, and mysterious world.

Arts in the Afternoon: Russian Romance

In-person and livestreamed! The rich, often melancholy voice of the viola (that larger, lower-pitched cousin of the violin) may be ideally suited for Russian classical music. Surely the passions and the sorrows of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet would be elegantly captured by viola and piano! Young Juliet, the balcony scene, Friar Laurence, courtly dances: Prokofiev’s ballet, re-imagined, is one of three works featured in our program. We’ll also hear from Glinka and Glazunov, two Russian composers who predated Prokofiev but arose from the same cultural milieu. Join Phillip Stevens and Madoka Asari for a program of 18th and 19th century Russian classics pairing this middle voice of the string section with the piano, narrated by music historian Betsy Schwarm.

Firefall Trio with Jock Bartley, Gary Jones and Steve Weinmeister

Firefall founder/guitarist Jock Bartley and lead singer Gary Jones will present an evening of Firefall classics like “Just Remember I Love You” and “You Are The Woman.” Celebrating 45 years of Firefall, Jock, Gary and their special guest will also perform songs from their critically acclaimed new album “Comet” featuring the new single “Way Back When.”

Arts in the Afternoon: The Hoagies

In-person and livestreamed! The Hoagies are an acoustic swing combo that has been performing great songs of the '40s and '50s in the Denver metro area for nearly 20 years. Featuring guitar, clarinet, sax, mandolin, bass, and drums, The Hoagies feature the jive favorites of such classic performers as Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan, the Nat King Cole Trio... and their namesake, Hoagy Carmichael.
