On Saturday morning, more than a hundred community members, including the Lone Tree Police Department and South Metro Fire Rescue, joined Lone Tree’s Teen Court and Mayor Jackie Millet in a moment of silence as a local Scouts Troop raised the official 9/11 Flag of Honor for the victims who lost their lives in of one of the darkest days in America.
“Twenty years ago, our country endured this evil terrorist attack by those who wished to destroy America,” said Mayor Millet, her voice breaking as she reflected on the act of terror that took the lives of thousands of innocent people. “But instead of breaking us, that evil act united us, and the mantra, never forget was born, and we will certainly never forget.”
Members of the Lone Tree Teen Court proceeded to read the names and bios of dozens of lives lost that day. They were selected as 1 of 60 communities across America joining together to Never Forget the lives lost on September 11th by raising the official 9/11 Flag of Honor, which included the names of all 2,983 victims who lost their lives and remembering the lives of 50 individuals during each ceremony.
This was the largest nationally coordinated 9/11 Day Project in America in remembrance of the 20th Anniversary of that tragic day on September 11th.
