Last week, the Denver metro area experienced an unusually active snowstorm that brought more than 20 inches of wet, heavy snow to Lone Tree. The storm disrupted trash and recycling collection for Lone Tree residents who normally have their waste collected on Thursday, March 14, and Friday, March 15. With teams treating the roads and the storm subsiding Friday afternoon, Waste Connections let the City of Lone Tree know that they would do their best to collect all missed trash and recycling from those days on Saturday, March 16.

Unfortunately, Waste Connections informed us that they were unable to complete all of the makeup routes over the weekend. Waste Connections apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused Lone Tree residents and has committed to collecting double trash for any household missed due to the weather and road conditions. This collection will take place on residents’ normal collection day this week. Recycling will resume during the next scheduled recycling pickup week.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through the impacts of the snowstorm!

waste bins are trapped in snow berms along a winding, recently plowed road.

  • On Saturday, March 16, Waste Connections will attempt collection of trash and recycling for all homes missed on Thursday and Friday. To ensure trash and recycling vehicles can quickly access and collect your waste, please place your bins in an easy-to-access spot free of snow berms created by plow vehicles.

This photo is good example of bins that are difficult to reach for waste collection vehicles. Waste Connections appreciates the help in safely and quickly collecting trash and recycling this Saturday!

  • Waste Connections will be unable to collect trash and recycling on Friday, March 15. Waste Connections will service homes missed on Thursday and Friday on Saturday, March 16, pending weather and road conditions.
  • Link on Demand Shuttle Service is operating on a modified schedule on Friday, March 15. The service will begin operations at 2 p.m.

It’s really coming down out there!

March is typically the snowiest month of the year in Colorado, and this recent storm is showing us why. As of 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, the City of Lone Tree has seen more than 15 inches of accumulation! This is a difficult storm, as most of the snow is heavy and wet. Our Public Works team is hard at work clearing snow from main roads and will be working diligently through the storm on clean-up efforts. Our police are also doing a great job of ensuring safety on the roads and responding to accidents. These crews have a tough job when storms like these roll in, so we hope you’ll give them a hearty wave the next time you see their vehicles pass by!

Trash & Recycling Delays

Waste ConnectionsAs roads become slick and the snow piles up, it becomes difficult for Waste Connections vehicles to get into neighborhoods for trash and recycling collection.

Waste connections was unable to service homes on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15. Waste Connections will collect trash and recycling from the Charter, Club Terrace, Lone Tree Terrace, Vista, Lyric, Fairways, Masters Park, and Taos neighborhoods on Saturday, March 16, pending weather and road conditions.

Any additional changes and service updates will be posted on this page and sent to residents in impacted neighborhoods who have signed up for the TextMyGov text messaging service.

Snow Debris Cleanup

Unfortunately, the wet, heavy snow means broken tree branches and other debris that will have to be delt with following the storm. As a reminder, Waste Connections will collect broken branches and brush, but they must be cut into 4′ lengths and tied securely in 24″ diameter bundles. There is a limit of five of these bundles per week. You can find out more on our Trash and Recycling page.

Closures and Delays

On Thursday, March 14, City offices closed due to weather and road conditions. Municipal Court was also canceled. If you were scheduled for court on Thursday, March 14, please email [email protected].

City offices will operate on a delayed opening on Friday, March 15. This will help ensure that essential staff can safely make their way to our facilities.

The Link on Demand free shuttle service was suspended for the day on Thursday, March 14. The service will operate on a modified schedule on Friday, March 15, beginning service at 2 p.m.

Spring is almost here!

Most importantly, please stay safe and warm during this winter storm! If you don’t have to hit the roads, we would recommend you stay indoors with a nice hot cup of coffee, cocoa, or tea. March may be the snowiest month of the year, but that means greener days are just around the corner!
