Determined to tackle traffic congestion and safety with innovative technology, three cities in the South Denver Metro region – Lone Tree, Centennial and Greenwood Village – are now more connected then ever. Last month, all three cities completed the installation and activation of new Smart Technology to implement a cross-jurisdictional approach to managing and reducing traffic congestion.

“Reducing traffic remains a top priority for our community, and road congestion does not recognize city borders,” said Lone Tree Mayor Jackie Millet. “This innovative partnership with our municipal neighbors provides a regional solution that improves traffic flow along the entire Denver South corridor and increases the efficiency of our existing road network.”

Last month, all three cities launched the first multijurisdictional coordinated adaptive signal project in the region. This new smart system signal technology allows for a more connected, data-driven, multi-jurisdictional traffic management plan for the Yosemite Street Corridor between Lincoln Avenue in Lone Tree and Belleview Avenue in Greenwood Village, that promotes efficient and safe traffic flow through the installation of sensors and adaptive signal controls at traffic signals.

“Improving the safety and efficiency of our roadways, while improving the flow of traffic are shared challenges among the cities of the south metro Denver area,” said Centennial Mayor Stephanie Piko. “This regional effort will ultimately result in enabling technology to improve traffic flow to keep our cities working for our residents.”

Dozens of intersections along the Yosemite Street corridor from Lincoln Avenue to Belleview Avenue are now equipped with new advanced detection systems and new camera technology.

“Greenwood Village increased the capability of the traffic signal system to implement changes in real time based on traffic demand coming from outside our community,” said Greenwood Village Mayor George Lantz.

This new adaptive signal system will enhance access through this corridor into Centennial and Greenwood Village as well as provide enhanced access to C-470, I-25, the Park Meadows Retail Resort and other businesses and residents within the City of Lone Tree.
