Getting the Necessary Training to Join the Teen Court Team
Teen Court is a voluntary program that serves as an alternative to traditional municipal prosecution. Teen Court allows first-time juvenile criminal offenders to come before a panel of their peers, trained teens in the community, who ultimately decide on what the offender’s sentence will be.
Teen Court provides Youth Volunteers with a positive introduction to the criminal justice system, an avenue to make an impact with other teens in the community, and an opportunity to receive community service hours for their time.
Before Youth Volunteers are permitted to serve on panels, they must undergo General Legal Training (GLT). GLT is an in-depth training covering all aspects of the Teen Court process, the restorative justice principles of our program, and program expectations for the Youth Volunteers. At GLT, prospective volunteers will have a chance to ask questions about Teen Court and interact with current Youth Volunteers in the program.
Teen Court’s next GLT is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024. GLT will be held at the Lone Tree Civic Center, located at 8527 Lone Tree Parkway, Lone Tree, CO, 80124.
GLT is a 1-day training split up into 2 sessions. The morning session will begin promptly at 9 am and will run until 11 am. Attendees will then break for lunch (which Teen Court will provide). The afternoon session will begin at noon and conclude by 2 pm.
To attend GLT, please fill out the Teen Court Volunteer application. Submitting the application will reserve your GLT spot. Applications are due by Saturday, January 20, 2024.
