Words of wisdom, gratitude, and encouragement were exchanged at the City Council regular meeting on Tuesday, May 21. Lone Tree honored the multiple years of service of outgoing members and celebrated the incoming Mayor and Council. “To everyone in this room,” Mayor Harmon shared, “I want to thank each of you for showing up to support us and our vision for this City.”

Mayor-elect Marissa Harmon was sworn in by the City Clerk, followed by District Two Council Member-elect Alecia Brown, and District One Council Member-Elect Mike Parr. The District One Council seat left unfilled by Mayor Harmon was filled by Jay Carpenter by council appointment. The incoming City Council reviewed applicants for the appointed position to serve the remainder of Mayor Harmon’s term, a length of two years. After public deliberation, the Council unanimously voted to appoint Carpenter, who was promptly sworn in.

The Council passed three resolutions for their first act as a full body, each recognizing the service and commitment of outgoing members Cathie Frazzini, Mayor Pro Tempore Wynne Shaw, and Mayor Jackie Millet.

Before the new Council was seated, Mayor Millet called her last meeting to order. She invited the audience to stand for the pledge of allegiance. “One of the things I’m going to miss most is the opportunity to say that. How many adults in the room have said that recently?” she joked.

Mayor Millet then invited the Council to make comments, giving particular recognition to Shaw and Frazzini. Council Member Frazzini recalled how Mayor Millet encouraged her to get involved in public service, and the challenging work that the Council did during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She shared, “I hope that people remember that this body and this Council cared deeply for our residents and cared that we did good work on behalf of this City.”

Council Member Shaw shared that Mayor Millet showed the rest of the Council how fully engaging in their roles brought recognition and opportunity beyond what’s expected – and that’s what they did.  “With both Council and staff striving for excellence, we’ve made a difference in our community and in our region,” she mentioned. She hopes the incoming Council will find joy in their roles and leave the community better than they found it.

Mayor Millet emphasized her gratitude for all those who have served alongside her, the passion and dedication of City staff, and residents of Lone Tree that come together to create this amazing community.

Mayor Harmon adjourned the meeting echoing the words of Lone Tree’s first Mayor Jack O’Boyle, “It’s another great day in Lone Tree.”
