Dear Lone Tree,
As I sit to compose my last Thanksgiving message as Lone Tree Mayor, coffee close at hand and maybe a tissue or two nearby (what can I say?… I’m sentimental!), I am filled with so much gratitude for the people who have been a part of my public service journey for the past 20 years. It is trite, but true, people are the secret sauce that makes our community special. From the City’s inception, Lone Tree residents and businesses have laid the strong foundation that has allowed the City to grow and prosper.
Lone Tree residents voted yes to incorporate, annex into RTD, annex the RidgeGate property, build our Arts Center, fund upgrades to parks and recreation facilities, and ensure the fiscal future of our City with the passage of 2E. Residents have also raised their hands to generously serve as volunteers in so many capacities and in so many ways to improve our City providing input, oversight, and manpower to move us forward. Lone Tree businesses have been the economic engine, not just for our City, but for Douglas County as well. In fact, the top five property tax remitters to the County are Lone Tree businesses! We are so thankful to the businesses that chose to locate and grow in our City.
Another important group of people I am deeply grateful for are the partners on City Council whom I have served alongside during my tenure as a Planning Commissioner, Council Member, and Mayor. These individuals have consistently prioritized what is in the best interests of our community and deeply care about positioning Lone Tree residents and businesses for success. Their efforts ensure Lone Tree is recognized as a safe, amenity-rich, and business-friendly community. Of course, the people who turn the Council’s vision into reality are the amazingly talented Lone Tree staff. The City is truly blessed to have these dedicated professionals working tirelessly to serve our community.
The collective action of many has created a vibrant, resilient, prosperous community we are fortunate to call ‘home.’ As we approach the holiday season, let us cherish the bonds and common goals that unite us and remember to express our gratitude for the blessings we share. In that spirit, I invite you to join us at the City Tree Lighting ceremony at the Lone Tree Arts Center on Friday, December 1, at 6 p.m.
Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving,
Jackie Millet
Mayor
